Curry GAA

Curry GAA, formed in 1889, is a small rural club located in South Sligo. It has a proud history having won seven Men’s Senior County titles in all, and numerous Ladies and Underage county titles.

Our club provides coaching and development starting from under 6s right up to Minor level, Senior Mens, Junior Mens, Junior Ladies, Mothers and Others. And most recently we have added Dads and Lads, one of the first clubs in connacht to provide this sports and social outlet.

Like many rural clubs Curry GAA has had its player pool severely depleted by emigration in the last decade. Having been relegated to Intermediate in 2017,  our Senior GAA team won the 2020 Intermediate Championship final to return to Senior Football after 3 years in the lower tier. That day, the average age of the team was 24.

Our underage teams continue to thrive, and the club’s ambitions are to develop the infrastructure and facilities to support them and promote further excellence and success on the playing pitches and provide assets for the wider community to use. The club has always been an important part of the community. Recently it has raised funds and had grant approval for a 1km floodlight run/walkway around the pitch for the people of Curry and Moylough to exercise and avail of the outdoors in a safe manner.

Training Facilities and Future Plans

The community of Moylough and Curry have a proud history of raising funds to support the development of Curry Moylough GAA Pitch and Community Park. This tradition continues and we have built club and community cases to secure numerous grants for the development of the pitch and grounds.

Phase 1 – In 2019 the Club secured Sports Capital Grant funding to install floodlighting on our main pitch.

Phase 2 – In 2020, the club was awarded a LEADER grant for a 1km floodlight run/walk track around the community grounds.

Phase 3 and 4 involve fundraising for the future development of the club grounds.

Phase 3 – Upgrade of the dressing room and car park to ensure our facilities meet the demands of our current teams and that our members, especially our youngest members, can move safely around the grounds.

Phase 4 – 90 x 50 astroturf, car park, and changing facilities.
